Snowshoe Sauble Beach
Welcome to sunny, snowy Sauble Beach. You already love this summer vacation paradise but ask any local, and you’ll soon learn that there’s a special kind of magic that happens here when the snow flies. The winter version of this popular tourist town offers solitude, peace and a shimmering, icy beauty that’s all yours.
Imagine snowshoeing along the banks of the Rankin River, sipping hot apple cider at the end of your hike and relaxing by the fire at sundown. It’s Canadian winter perfection. Make this the winter you plan a snowshoe getaway in Sauble Beach!
Snowshoeing is one of the fastest growing winter sports—and for good reason. This low impact, cardio workout lets you easily explore the forest and Sauble Beach offers a great opportunity to get your feet ‘snowy’ in the sport.
Long known for their pristine, groomed cross-country ski trails, the Sauble Beach Cross Country Ski Club now offers 10 kilometres of snowshoe-specific trails. Check out the snowshoe trail map here.
These popular trails can be used for a day rate fee or with a yearly membership. Day rates are $8 for a single, $15 for a couple or $20 for a family. Children 6 and under are free. Annual memberships are $50 for singles, $90 for couples and $105 for families. Early bird rates are available until December 1st! Passes can be purchased at the chalet (on weekends), from the trailhead lockbox, at MacBeth’s Café and Bakery or at Suntrail Outfitters in Hepworth.
If you’re skiing on the weekends, be sure to stop at the chalet for a hot apple cider and some banter about the trails. If you happen to make it north during a full moon, be sure to join members for a night snowshoe. This year’s winter full moons are December 14th, January 18th and February 19th. Skiing and showshoeing groups also meet Monday’s and Friday’s at 10:30 a.m. at the trailhead if you need company on your new adventure. The club also offers free skiing and snowshoeing on February 17th for Family Day!
Don’t have your own snowshoes? No problem. Visit Thorncrest Outfitters in Southampton and rent a pair. With day and multiday rates available, the folks at Thorncrest will hook you up. For more info, visit http://www.thorncrestoutfitters.com/paddling/rentals.htm.
Looking to make your snowshoe adventure a weekend visit? The Sauble River Marina and Resort offers some great winter packages. Catch a break on your accommodations, enjoy a continental breakfast before you hit the trails and warm up by the fire when you return. Check out their packages here
