Going to the horse races is a family affair at Hanover Raceway. Featuring harness racing in the evening on Saturdays from May to October, and on Wednesdays through July and August, this racetrack includes special events with prizes on most race days. Families tend to gather in the apron, under the grandstand, pressed against the fence to see the horses up close and be next to the action. Admission is free, parking is free, and if you’re not inclined to bet, a visit here can be exciting evening without costing a dime. A fully licensed restaurant with buffet specials is open daily, and if you’re feeling lucky, be sure to try your hand at slots.
Cars at the Finish
If you and your family have never experienced the high-energy atmosphere of a stock car race here’s your perfect opportunity. The Sauble Speedway – minutes from Sauble Beach – is host to races every Saturday night and on Sundays of long weekends, from mid-May to mid-September. It’s loud, fun, exciting – and simple. You buy some fries, a large pop, sit in the grandstand and watch the cars go around. No need to be a NASCAR keener to catch the buzz; the energy is infectious. There’s also no need to drive there. The Speedway provides shuttle service from Sauble Beach Campgrounds to the track and back – free for ages 12 and under.
