Accessibility Statement

The County of Bruce is committed to providing an entertaining, informative and accessible environment for its Web visitors. Every effort has been made to create pages which can be accessed by anyone.

Accessibility Features

Font Sizes

Is the font too small? Or too big? You can easily resize the text using your Web browser. If you are using either Internet Explorer or Firefox: go to the View menu and choose Text Size (and then pick the font size you want). For more information on changing font sizes on Web pages, please read, How to Change Text Size or Colors.

Navigation

There are two access keys to help you navigate the site. Pressing alt+n will jump you back to the site's main navigation; pressing alt+c will jump you to the start of the content for the page you're on. If you're using a Mac these keyboard shortcuts are control+n and control+c.

If you prefer, you can use your keyboard to navigate the entire site. In addition to the access keys listed above, you can press tab to move from link to link. Assuming you have not used the access keys, the first link you access on the page when tabbing through will be the "skip to content" link. Use it to skip straight down to the content (thus skipping the navigation bar). You can also use your space bar to scroll down the page.

Descriptive Captions and Explanations

Wherever possible the site is available in XHTML with descriptive captions and link text. Look for the dotted underlines below acronyms and abbreviations. Hovering your mouse over the word will give you a "tool tip" with more information about the word in question.

Non-accessible Content and PDFs

If an accessible version of the content is not available, a note will be made to the user. If you are unable to read PDFs you may want to use Acrobat's on-line conversion tool to create pages which can be accessed without additional software.
