Some of the best mountain biking in Ontario can be found at the Carrick Tract in Bruce County. In fact, locals say that the Carrick Tract is the best single track in Bruce County! The soil and gravel mixture provides excellent riding conditions that are virtually dry all season long.
Head to Mildmay and start your day off by fueling up at the Vintage Café. Local, Red-Seal Chef Melanie Weiler has opened a small, elegant cafe, serving breakfast, lunch, specialty beverages and lots of fresh baking, including gluten free options. Ask for a take away lunch for later.
Drive south on Highway 9 until you reach Huron Bruce Road and turn right (west). You'll find the Carrick Tract about 6km up the road.
Start at Johnny’s Swamp of Doom (1.6 km) for some easy riding. For the seasoned veteran, looking for more of a challenge, head to Sleepy Hollow (2.2 km) and Gilly’s Galatic Speedway (0.8 km). This park has 7 km of single track and is great if you’re just starting out. All you seasoned riders, don’t worry, you can pick up some serious speed here! There are no bridges or boardwalks along the trails.
After your adventure, head to Harley’s Pub and Perk in Mildmay to get the full Bruce County experience: locally-sourced dishes and world famous butter tarts (you can’t leave without trying one)! It’s the perfect setting for après-biking eating and unwinding after and exhilarating day.
