Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby in Southampton

Back To Listings
July 28, 2012 - August 12, 2012

The largest salmon derby on Lake Huron covers over 150 km of Lake Huron shoreline from Port Albert to Stokes Bay, also includes a stretch on Georgian Bay from Cabot Head to Dundas Point. The derby runs for 16 days to encourage participants to spend 3 full weekends with us. Family anglers, moms and dads. grandpas and grandmas are encouraged to participate in the free kids day. For the more competitive at heart there are Ladies Days and Seniors Days. Cash and product prizes are awarded for the top 25 salmon, top 6 trout, youth and daily prizes as well as special event awards for Kids Day, Ladies and Senior Days. During the peak of summer, the Chantry is one of the major players in area tourism. As Lake Hurons largest open water fishing derby it draws anglers and their families to the area for fishing and fun in the sun. Whether angling the crystal clear waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, relaxing on the sandy beaches or taking in the incredible sunsets, the Chantry is a true family vacation destination. All money raised goes toward the conservation programs of the Lake Huron Fishing Club.. This non profit organization uses the funds to continue its efforts in extensive stocking of salmon, brown trout and rainbow trout from their hatcheries in Port Elgin and Kincardine. Other programs include elementary school education and rehabilitation of local tributaries to improve fish habitat. This helps ensure Lake Huron along with local rivers and streams remain the premiere Great Lakes fishing and tourism destination for today and the future generation of anglers.
