Dark Skies & Stargazer’s in Bruce County, Ontario

Bruce Peninsula’s Dark Sky

The Bruce Peninsula’s Dark Sky Preserve provides the perfect backdrop for a spectacular view of our Milky Way

Head to Lion’s Head and check in to Lion’s Head Beach Motel & Cottages, located right on the beach! Lion’s head is a small town in the heart of the Bruce Peninsula. The Bruce Trail passes through town, offering hikes along majestic cliffs rising from the turquoise waters.

Step back in time for dinner at Rachel's Diner and Bakery, a 50’s style restaurant serving “home cooked meals made with love”.

After dinner, enjoy free, local talent at the beach! Every Friday from July 5 until August 30th musicians bring Harbourside Music Nights (http://visitlionshead.ca/profile/harbourside-music/1590/) to Lion’s Head.

Head to the Lion’s Head Marina for Bayside Astronomy’s free astronomy program (offered every Friday and Saturday evening at dusk, from Canada Day to Labour Day). Explore the universe like never before using volunteer telescopes.

For breakfast, take in the Lion’s Head Farmer’s Market (Saturdays, 9-12).

Head up to Tobermory and depart on the Chi-Cheemaun’s Sunset Dinner Cruise at 8pm (offered Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings, June 17 – Sept 5). Enjoy views of Flowerpot Island, Cove Island, and their respective lighthouses.

After you arrive on Manitoulin Island, either plan to stay overnight and spend some time exploring the island, or head right back to Tobermory on the late night passage, the Stargazer’s Delight (nightly excluded Thursdays, July 29 – Sept 5). With the help of the Chi-Cheemaun’s astronomy enthusiasts, experience the stars like never before!
