Are you one of those people who like to have their Christmas shopping done by the end of August? You’ll find lots of great gift ideas in Bruce County’s art studios, gift and antique shops, and some of the best Ontario Farmers markets around.
From the extensive Circle Arts Gallery in Tobermory, which presents original fine artworks of area artists, to the Artisan Blacksmith Studio in Cargill, Bruce County is home to dozens of artists and artisans, drawn here by the County’s quiet lifestyle and scenic beauty. They have created co-op galleries, hold studio tours each year, and will welcome your visit.
An important force in Bruce County’s arts community is the Southampton Art School - the longest operating summer arts school in Ontario. Which is a great gift to send someone to an art course all year round. Affiliated with the school is a co-op gallery in the old Southampton Town Hall on the main street.
Bruce County Antique stores also abound, and are filled with delightful artifacts from the past. Visit the Paisley City Mill, an eclectic shop housed in a 5-story heritage mill, or Glory Be! Antique Glass in Lion’s Head. And don’t pass up our farmers market which Foodlinkgreybruce has made a great list on there dedicated local food page.. They often include handicrafts, from hand-made knitted articles to one-of-a-kind greeting cards. I personally like to stop into the Southampton 2 floor market and spend an afternoon saving money on all sorts of gifts and household items.
You can download the Art Map from this web page for more ideas of other galleries to visit. These shops are hopping in the summer. For a more laid-back experience, spend a lazy weekend in spring or fall and your Christmas shopping could be done.
ps: Don't forget about all the stocking stuffer opportunities at Bruce County Nut and Fudge in Sauble Beach, Mil Creek Chocolates in Hanover, Tobermory's The Sweet Shop and/or Northern Confections in Wiarton! Your kids will love the original goodies “Santa’s big helpers” find there. -giggle-
So make sure if your visiting the area to grab those deals, it wil reduce stress over the winter and open up more time for spending time with the family and loved ones. Did you find an amayzing deal or have a good shopping story in Bruce County, comment below on your travels to help others!
