All of the Adventure Passport Stops are worthwhile, but this itinerary focuses the Port Elgin and Southampton Passport Stops this year. Both are located in picturesque locations offering the best of Saugeen Shores.
Head to Port Elgin and check in at the comfortable Port Elgin Super 8 (5129 Ontario 21 South, Port Elgin). Grab breakfast at the iconic Aunt Mabel’s Country Kitchen (5084 Highway 21, Port Elgin) and ask for the Egg’s Benedict before starting your adventure.
Park at the Saugeen Rail Trail, Trail Head and remember: this is the only washroom directly on the trail so if you gotta go, this is the time! Head south on foot or bike and follow the yellow Detour signs to find the Passport Stop. Hint: it will take you approximate 45 minutes to walk to Passport Stop #5.
Take a break. Head to downtown Port Elgin and cool off with a nice cold beverage on the glorious patio at Allan’s Fireside Grill. Don’t miss the Fireside Stix, a four cheese spinach dip based inside jalapeno pizza dough served with ancho chilli dip!
Next up, take the trolley to Southampton. New this year, the trolley runs a loop from downtown Port Elgin to Port Elgin Beach, along Miramichi Bay to Southampton Beach and downtown Southampton and costs only $1 each way! Get off at Southampton Beach and head to the Flag Pole to find clues to Passport Stop # 6 (look for the yellow detour signs). Along the way, keep your eyes open for the Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores.
