Are you in the holiday spirit yet? Do you need a little help getting there?

Spending time with family and friends is what this time of year is all about so don’t forget that when you are busy shopping and preparing. When you need a stress-busting activity to get that lovin’ holiday feeling again, why not try some of these suggestions:

  • Make your own decorations, age appropriate ideas can be found for 2 years old – 15 here: http://www.allfreecrafts.com/christmas/index.shtml
  • Play in the snow – snow angels, snowman, fox and rabbit, build a fort.
  • Go to a local school concert. Most public schools have concerts this time of year. And nothing helps bring cheer than seeing 20 little 5 year olds singing their favourite holiday tune!
  • Decorate the tree together.christmas lights home
  • Tour your local light displays. Drive or walk through the neighbourhood. Don’t forget to bring the hot chocolate!   You can also enter the Christmas Home Theme Photo contest with a simple snapshot and win some prizes.
  • Go see Santa.
  • Bake cookies. Why do all the work yourself? Make it a family affair. You can also check out Kincardine's Gingerbread House Making on Dec 20th.
  • Deliver food or toys to the local toy drive and food bank.
  • Horse drawn sleigh rides.
  • Tobogganing. Sledding  is still fun for all ages of kids.
  • Go cross-country skiing .
  • Snowshoeing. You can try it in your backyard or for the adventurous, why not attempt the trail from Bruce Peninsula National Park to the Grotto?
  • Rent some Holiday movies or schedule in an evening with popcorn. There are tons of festive shows, old and new, on tv this time of year.  Wiarton video and Port Elgin Cinemas are 2 of my favorite spots.xmas parades kids
  • Take in a Santa Claus Parade.  Check out our list here for 2010 Parades.
  • Host a pre-holiday party for your children and friends. Ok, that might make more stress for you but if you like to add to the excitement, I’m sure this would do it.

In every family, there is that one special little thing – a tradition - that you do together that stands out in our memory. So, this year continue that tradition, share your wonderful idea with someone else, or start a new tradition!

Please share with us your own unique Chistmas or cultural tradition that you do each year.
